Took my kids to the park today for an Easter egg hunt. Even though it seemed that most of the kids had a good time, here are some other observations:
Faster more aggressive kids leave the slower and weaker kids behind. Parents are coaching their kids to run fast and get as many eggs as they can. Parents are actually rushing to grab eggs for their kids. At the end of the hunt, i didn't see any people (adults or kids) thanking the volunteer staff for their efforts.

My questions becomes "what are we teaching our kids?". I wonder how many parents encouraged their kids to share their eggs with other kids that had less? How many parents encourage their kids to help those that weren't as fast or aggressive? How many parents told their kids "ok you have enough, leave some for the other kids"? How many parents told their kids to thank the volunteers?

This park was in the heart of silicon valley where average housing prices are over $800K and average household incomes are over $150K. Why is that relevant? These are some of the more educated and successful people by modern societies standards. What are the important values of our society? It seems that even with these "fun activities" we are teaching our kids to be selfish and ungrateful. There is nothing fun about that.

Aren't holidays such as Easter and Christmas, supposed to be celebrations centered on values such as kindness, charity, giving, sharing, etc? Whats happening to our society? What will be become as a society?
