The concept of government has been tossed around for quite sometime. As the private sector and web have long grown tired of web 2.0 and moved on to version 2.5 the public sector is looking at web 2.0.

State's are looking to implement web 2.0 applications/technologies where it makes the most sense. If you've been paying attention lately you'll notice state's with youtube channels, representatives with twitter and facebook accounts and internal wikis are being setup to increase collaboration.

With all that said, there is still some apprehension towards the web. Government has yet to fully embrace instant messaging and other collaboration tools. I am very interested on the impact the Obama administration will have on government technology. He has indicated that he will appoint the nation's first CTO and plans to use a laptop (ohh boy) at his desk.

It will be interesting to see what steps government will take in technology.

Any thoughts or ideas?

You know, it always seems silly to me XZY person using IM for work or chat rooms. Then I step back and think how powerful fast and easy it is to do a vid chat AIM etc now a days.

I can vid chat with 4 people with no problems I can't do that on a cell phone even the most cutting edge one.

I think the fact they will look at it a bit open mindedly might be a good thing.

Technology is a tool and just like any other tool the people who use it are the ones who have it's worth.
