Changing wardrobe,
I always have been a total formal wear snob, I have a collection of suits that would shame most of the fortune 500's CEOs.
When it came to daily ware I've not much put thought into it, I didn't dress like a bum but not much better.
Well, now my work is business casual (what ever that means I see jeans and blazers and all in between). I've stepped all my clothing up. I do dress a very classic style over all.
I'm the only person I know my age let alone most any age whom still wears a hat outside only. I have a pile of ball caps from my favorite teams but I carry a fedora for bad weather and I never will have a hat on inside. I've seen a co worker with a Braves cap on in his cubical. My fedora is on the rack over top of my trench coat.
I've noticed this style of dress and care to how i'm presented has mixed reactions. I won't get into the good bad of judged on appearance. Most people find my style a touch odd and dated. I probably look big money from the 20s. Then again I see nothing wrong with that.
I put in care other's don't for day to day life, my hair is combed brushed and pomaded(gelled) just right, takes a total of 20 seconds to me. When I'm clean shaven it's done with a straight razor daily. As now I keep a beard, it's trimmed twice a day.
I've never been late getting ready it's a few seconds, and with knowing people and living with girls before I'm one of the fastest people to get ready in the morning so it's not like i'm playing makeup for 4 days.
People seem to take me a bit more seriously, I still look quite young but I'm treated with more respect, I don't look older then a mid teen but my last beer purchase I was asked for id, not the normal "you got ID? or let me see your ID?" it was "Sir, may I see your Identification?" I heard the people before me and they got the " got ID?" I was treated better. Is this look command it? Or does my care of myself and detail rub off to people?
I know this post seems absurdly shallow and quite yuppie. A yuppie would not have such a dated fashion. Shallow, well as I said before, lets not debate the right and wrong, this is a trial by fire that's paid off.
I'm quite a busy person but 20 seconds of prep to get so much better treatment sure seems to be a worthy investment.
Perhaps I'm more shallow as someone who does care what people think. Since I'm putting 20 seconds into my day to get a possible better reaction from someone who means nothing to me.
