What we can't change but doesn't feel right

History is written by the victors, we all know that.

Have you ever looked at the "winners" and going... wow, that's not what happened or what should have happened.

I've been doing a ton of research on a few times period in history that I feel have been cases of "the bad guy" winning. Needless to say, we as a world commonly don't care nor look into these things so deep. People into history dare not speak such things for seeming to be opening sore wounds or slandering a "hero".

Time seems to allow truths to come out, but also to be forgotten, Thankfully with the ability of most all to read or write now we'll look back in 100 years and see more of really what happened.

I've always been a big fan of military history, while the time periods I actively read up on changes the American Civil War has always held a spot for me, and in the point of this blog holds an excellent point.

In 15 years or so since i've read up on the war, Sherman becomes more and more a debated character. Even more advanced reading as a youth, he was a hero, no if ands and buts saying slash and burn total war was a great idea and that was that. Also on the point, the Union was perfect and just, white knights of freedom (yes I used that term as a pun) While the South was un-educated poor southerners who wanted to expoilt people and that's all.

Now a days people openly disagree and condemn Sherman and the North. They aren't looked at sore losers or backers of slavery or haters of America.

What I wonder, is what will we start debating or wondering on next? Do you or I feel the south was just in case? What other groups? There's been 1000s of wars in 10,000s of years. It's also not just military, do we look now in 2009 and feel the right party was robbed?

What sparked this blog was being sick and after work sitting down and watching 8 hours and a brutal reading season of the first world war.. I've always not felt things were as simple as history tells, but now I'm almost upset about how it ended.

I'm quite vocal against Wilson's handling of the war and more then before I don't know if we should have got mixed up at all. While family of mine on both sides were fighting for both sides, and a distant relative was gassed to hell fighting with the English Army.

I often wonder, had things played differently in some of these events we feel the wrong side won, where would the world be, on my topic of the first world war, I think we'd have a lot more stable world today, and possibly could have avoided the 2nd world war. Maybe I'm wrong, but what was done is done.

Yes I know I can't change it, so why dream you ask? Why even think about what's done? Well why not first of all would be my retort, but even more so, if we honestly and logically plan from a time right didn't happen what would have occurred when right happened, we'll be more ready for when right works out. Yes I think many times a win has been squandered by such shock of victory.

Picture if Washington looked Cornwallis in the eyes and said "Really?" I'm sure he was fully ready to surrender himself and his men at a few points, really, just summed up plan for the worst and hope for the best. Just be ready incase you make that long shot.

Well, I'm just not feeling great and on a history kick so forgive me if this bores you to tears.
